Broadcasting in Chinese

This great and ancient nation has regained a place of prominence in the world today. With its massive population estimated to be 1.4 billion people of which 91% are Han Chinese, the complexity and change within China is occurring at a rapid pace. While it is largely believed that the elimination of all religious groups has always been the ultimate aim of the estimated 60 million Communist party members by 1958 it is believed the government engineered the control of all organized Christian movements through the Three Self Patriotic Movement, a blend of ‘patriotic’ and often theologically liberal Christians with the encouragement of the Communist party as the interface between the government and the Church. Although the beliefs of many Chinese and other minority groups are a blend of folk religions, Buddhism and Daoism, the official government is Atheism. It is estimated that only five to six percent of China’s population is Christian.

In the last 10 years many small windows of opportunity have opened. In large part all can be attributed to the answer of the prayers of many and the long term sacrifice of Christians laying the ground work.

With the very diverse make-up of both educated and uneducated people in the world’s third largest land mass, oral communication through he remarkable effectiveness of Christian Radio and those Christians having courage and faith to broadcast God’s Word is now becoming plain to see.

Within the past 5 years Internet users in China has grown from 10 million to a now estimated 110 million. It is estimated that by 2012 China will have more Internet users than any other country on earth. The fast pace of technology in China is remarkable. In 2005, China was first in the world in Informational Technology.

With China’s interaction with many other world cultures, both politically and economically, the opportunity while guarded, may open new doors to share the Word of God with the Chinese population through Radio and Internet.

There are many prayer needs within China. The challenges in communicating the Word of God remain ever present.

Christian  pastors and leadership training is terribly lacking and is a critical need. The difficulty of training, materials, protection from detention, abuse and interference is evident in every day life for many Christians men and particularly women. It is the hope of our broadcast partner to train 5000 new pastors through broadcast radio and Internet

The unregistered or house church networks maybe the heart of the church growth in China. While intense persecution is present many Christians continue to be the beacon and outreach for the spread of the Gospel in China through these meeting venues.

Christ to the World Ministries  through Far East Broadcasting began our first drama series, ‘Person who met Jesus’ in April 2006 by radio and internet. Our Bible Study guides are accessible by Internet and through other methods of distribution.

Work is underway to translate, produce and broadcast the ‘Life of Christ’ drama series which is a  chronological account and the impact of the Life of Jesus.

We pray and believe that millions of Chinese hopefuls will come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through these broadcast and teaching materials.
